What’s the plans in regarding bringing the midsection up? Treat it much like any other muscle group and give it a little more frequency ?

Sorry to hear about your injury bud. I’d probably go for a 3 on 1 off split here. Chest, back, delts and arms, rest.

Kevin does give some good advice there. I’d you got no access to a physio then mobility drills will always go a long way
That’s a simple routine I follow as when I get heavy I have lower back pumps too . Half of the time it’s glute mid & SI joint,

    Hope this helps ????

Maybe see a massage therapist I know those lower back pumps post contest prep but this always helps me a lot if everything is in line. Also I try not to do as much warmup sets as usual cause it hinders my performance.
If you feel sleep apetite or digestion getting off than think of a deload I don’t think if everything s at an all time high you should stop riding that train ????

Yeah that makes sense, unfortunately don’t have access to my therapist at the minute due to lockdown, but will do a bit more release work around the hips etc.
    Thank you

I know you deloaded a week or so back. Did this help much in clearing knee and elbow issues or more just allowed you to manage it better whilst still moving forward.
Having similar issues and considering wether a full rest or take your approach with the single working sets

Hi Neil. Firstly as others have said this is a very dependent on the individual and also your lifestyle/job etc will play a huge role.
Can it be done? Absolutely! In fact when I step on stage in 25 weeks time I will have to push hard to get down to the classic limit. That will put me a minimum of 22lbs of stage weight up in exactly 18months but leaner
Did we aim for this? No. Instead we aimed to string perfect days, weeks and months together one after another. Adhering to the plan 100% with 0 and I mean 0 compromises, training in a progressive overload fashion to the point your logbook scares you. Eating not just a shit tonne of food but the best available foods, Sleeping more than you ever have like it’s part of you job and creating a stress free environment. This is the perfect scenario but if you have the means to do all this within your personal circumstances or not is another thing.
Concentrate on the day and week in front of you, session to session and the bigger picture will follow. Don’t waste a single day.

    Fantastic man.
Its a goal I’ve set myself, the process of course involves being in love with the process and being completely dedicated to it. I’m well aware of that. New coach said that was the goal and just wanted to feel out if it was actually viable
It’s not a matter for me of I’m going to slam tonnes of gear as some may have perceived more is it physically doable in a 2 year timescale
Thanks for the response and experience

Hey chaps, so my pushes up have always been after comps, so lean start points

These were the big pushes to break plateaues. 2008-2012 gaining size was very very easy. I gained 15 pounds stage weight a year just from training hard and eating . It was after that I had to really push to get more
    2012 : 210 – 280 , when I came back down in 2013 I was 230 . So I got 20 pounds stage weight in one year there.
2013-2014 I didn’t have much time as I did the back end of 2013 and early 2104 , so I went upto 248 only , then 2014 showing was 237.
After this was the next big push, 240 – 300 , when came down in 2015 was 248
After that went upto 286 , came back down to same kinda weight 246 in 2016 . Didn’t get any new muscle but the look was better.
2017 was a manic year , we did our masters , moved house , and the business really started to show. So I didn’t go up heavy , Max I was 275 I didn’t compete this year .
2018 I went up over 300 , then came down to 248. I stayed very tight after this to try to fix my waist , Max I went was 260 . This totally backfired as I didn’t regain all my size so 2019 I didn’t compete, I was down at 240 and still not ready . Then after that it’s been 240-280 , then mini cut to 265 , then push to 292 and then I’m on the way down now ????
As you can see each push up yields less and less , but in total it’s been 100 pounds of Stage weight added since I started.

Really interesting and extremely detailed account
Seems like the big push ups are warranted in the early years when you haven’t really maxed out muscle building potential yet. Cool to see
    I’m due a push up I think haha ????????????

Hey Neil, personally, I’d say it’s a big ask as I’ve seen you in person. I’m not saying it’s impossible but my humble opinion is play the long game.
I say this because I can see first thing you mentioned is assistance. Indeed there’s scope to use more. But IMO I’d rather use the minimum dose for maximal effect over a longer period of time & keep my health markers in range.
The stage isn’t going anywhere and another thing is you did get in good shape too so just ruthlessly tick the boxes, get strong as fuck, enjoy the process & come next year , assess where you are. But don’t rush the process , when you do that , chances are something will be compromised defeating the objective.
Doing what you need to do day I. Day out without thinking you have to be there by a certain day will also relieve the pressure , causing you to make more rational & sober decisions and allow you to enjoy the journey a bit more, which I assume it’s what it’s all about.
I’ve jumped up 3 classes & that’s took me almost the best part of a decade, & so trust me when I say these things take time.
    Hope this helps. ????

@jordan-peters what is the biggest push up in weight you have done and how much did you have to pull off? Do you think a big push up in offseason weight at least once is worth it to achieve maximal potential?
I’m want to go from men’s physique to classic with an aim of 20lb extra stage muscle in the next 2 years before a prep

The page back you said you’d been a member here for 3 years so if you don’t know the answer to this question then you definitely haven’t been reading properly mate, he’s gone over it quite a lot and in old logs he laid out his push up to 300lbs and there is also a video of it. (from memory it was about 60lbs) so might be worth reading and using the search mate.
