good week so far
jiu jitsu yesterday was great – best i have felt in a roll, things started click
class was very productive too
today – really solid quad session with a wee bit of ham…the mats turned up half way through training which is annoying…so spent 30 off mins in the middle dragging mats in as the pallet broke and the delivery guy couldnt move them all….so a good session but a weird one lol
we then did 40 ish mins of drilling/positional sparring
then nasty assault bike for 240 kcals – 23 off mins at a good pace
progress all round
hope everyone has avoided the rain…i left my washing on the line….which is fabulous – one of those adult british problems that is so not a problem haha

nice sunny day – hope you all enjoyed it!
sunday is total rest which is lovelyyyyy – saw my mum for a walk and went to a little market in town
a couple of friends popped over early afternoon, then james, janicke, louis and maddy are here, so had a nice catch up and they have gone for dinner.
saturday was great – lower session and then we did some jiu jitsu…drills then rolling – positional sparring kinda thing, for about an hour! the time flew.
then dinner last night, a lovely italian restaurant …the bruschetta was delicious!
then home and watched half of miami vice…never seen it before but it once of jordans favourites.
ready to dive into another week
no diet change – just see how it goes this week in terms of dropping any weight – im not in a rush nor am i that desperate / in need to be in the lower category so im not guna force anything as i want to perform
slight change to the schedule so i can cram a bit more in!
monday – jiu jitsu am – class pm
tuesday – quads plus ham, 30 mins drilling & fitness
wednesday jiu jitsu am – class/KB pm
thursday – push, 30 mins drilling & fitness
friday – jiu jitsu am, hams plus quad – KB pm
saturday – pull, drills & sparring
sunday – reeeeeelax

thursday
session in the am, rescheduled from monday – great session, i filmed my rolls again to learn as much as i can from these
then upper session, nice and strong, baby progress….5k on the assault treadmill, shaved 40 secs off my first time – chuffed with that π
dont usually double up jiu jitsu and training BUT needs must at times, and it doesnt bother me
today
session this morning – again great, really drilled the techniques of passing and its starting to click already. did 15 mins ish of positional sparring at the end, either trying to pass or defending.
Kickboxing tonight – leaving in about an hour
last night our electrics tripped….so had to turn all kitchen sockets off…fab! so that meant fridge and freezer had to turn off….ALL the food of the freezer had to go today… such a pain in the butt… i cooked most of the meat type stuff so the dogs will be having a feast lol
defo bored of adulting this week – its been one things after the other! BUUUUUUUT training and life has been lovely so i cant complain too much

updates..
so sunday i went to cambridge to see a friend for the day and night – lovely time…and highly recommend a trip to cambridge if anyone ever has the chance.
came back monday – missed my am sessions, but have rescheduled that for tomorrow.
monday night – class – sweeps from closed guard – really good, jordan was my partner…my shins are veryyy bruised from about an hour of trying to sweep him lol
tuesday – leg session, then fitness, 12k on the bike, better pace and longer distance felt great – had to attend a funeral tuesday late afternoon, so it was an early session then a drive down to surrey and back, but a really nice afternoon (as far as such occasions go!)
today – am session – in the gi, as its sensible to spend that extra hour on it seen as thats the comp! working on passing the guard…i dont know much on this yet, so all very new – then had 2 x 6 mins rolls…class tonight, guna get up and leave in a mo jo π

It is awesome to see the transition into BJJ and how you are documenting it getting ready for your first comp. I made a similar transition from powerlifting and did my first comp about 6 months after. It was IBJJF Worlds and had a blast but noticed that I had a hard time controlling my HR due to the adrenaline spike before the match. Are you doing any breath work or arousal control to help minimize that adrenaline spike at all?

in honesty im not…ive never had a problem with excessive nerves/adrenaline
i will be nervous of course! but not to the point that it will impact my breathing, and therefore performance

morning
so i did 5k on the runner – felt surprisingly good
i hadnt pre decided….thought id do 1.5 x 3 maybe…but then i just kept going!
so i will work on that distance and time and fine my stride
session was good too – small progressions
party was lovely! then a nice meal out – greek…one of my fav types of food
off to cambridge today for the night to see a friend
she lives in the Caymen Islands and is back in the uk for 2 ish weeks
so ill be resting as normal today, ill eat to me needs and hit the macros
tomorrow, depending on time, i will go to class on the way home…if it doesnt time out, i will rest again
i rearranged my morning monday session to thursday already so nothing will be missed for the week π

busy couple of days
so thursday was my nieces birthday…. its the mermaid party today…obvs ive made her a cake!
had a nightmare with the scales….i melted and dyed chocolate…cooled it, had the intention of cutting circles from it with a stamper i brought BUT this did not work…wasnt sharp enough at all…so had to improv….and just broke the choc into pieces….so its an abstract tailed mermaid haha
made the cake thursday in between work and training – vanilla with raspberry jam and buttercream to keep things simple and please the majority….happy with the bake
friday – iced and decorated
saturday/today – delivered and eaten!
anyway… training stuff
friday – bjj class in the morning – great session, i filmed my roll as i want to start working out some areas that are catching me out and then work on those as well
friday evening – kickboxing class – the usual instructor wasnt there so it was a bit odd…can tell the stand in guy had no idea or confidence on how to coach….but hey ho!
today
up early, had my swim before breakfast coz i wont have time later (usually do this after post workout and walk)
training on my own as i need to delivery the cake to my sisters before 10.30 and i want to be at the party by about 1/1.30…so i will train 11-1 ish
upper session today the fitness…..might do some running today – ill update once its done!

creeping weights and reps on movements
assault bike to finish – 220 kcals – distance and pace was higher and felt really good
that is one horrible piece of kit buuuuut me and the good old ass bike (i think its a fitting abbreviation…) are starting to see eye to eye π
class last night was ‘turtle’…and chokes from this – felt good, not touched this topic much so very much just getting to grips with the very basics

upper session yesterday was good – moved away from Bench for a while, as ive had a very good run on it, but i need to focus on some other movements to see this step forward again
micro progressions on all movements
11k bike to finish up – pace and distance a little higher than the last which is great
today
morning class – usually nogi but did gi today to drill a little more as we head into the comp
everything felt great….was a HOT session lol i blame the black gi…i swear the white one is cooler haha
class tonight – im not sure whats on the syllabus this week, but i will update tomorrow
from a personal perspective – feeling happy with fitness and strength, and how i look – body is working well for me! i would like to be stronger…obvs…but thats a veryyyy patient game these days!

the first comp just doesnt have nogi in it so i cant enter….i will look to do a couple of comps this year, and enter nogi as well π

Hey all
perfect session this morning
now working on passing the guard from top position.
started with some work on the feet (randori), learnt 2 new take downs.
ended the session with 2 6min free rolls.
felt good – guard retention is coming on well and feeling more confident with identifying opportunities to pass/sweep/gain points
i havent been taught many submissions yet, just improving my general guard, movement and ability to manipulate posture.

so today i am 9 weeks out from my first jiu jitsu comp
2nd October
this will be in the Gi. there are no NoGi events at this competition.
current situation…
monday – morning, bjj session – evening class or rest
tuesday – weight session plus fitness session
wednesday – morning, NoGi bjj session – evening class or rest
thursday – weight session plus fitness session
friday – morning, bjj session – evening kickboxing session (starting this week)
saturday – weight session plus fitness session
sunday – full rest – will start bjj session in a few weeks
diet

all days are variable, i will alter the totals in fine with the intensity of the day – if i feel i need to eat more i will, i feel i need to eat less, i will etc
i am going to compete in the middle weight category which is 69kg – IN THE GI…so my on wake nude weight needs to be about 66-66.5kg to allow for the clothing
also you weigh in then compete, so there is no 24 hours weigh in window etc etc.
i am not altering macros this week
this diet is seeing me a little in a deficit, as training intensity has stepped up a little over the last few weeks
i have adding in 1 KB class, starting this friday and will also now just eat a bit less on the saturday meal out, that will be the shift this week to drop maybe a 1lb.
current weight = 69.5-70.5 kg
so…here we go! i will try to film some sessions and will post on IG, just get a nice documentation of everything…i realise this is a little different, im an absolute novice at this! but if you want to follow along please do so π
