Plenty of positive evidence both studies real life experience for the use of the sauna.

I’m currently getting in the sauna (traditional not infrared) 3-4 times a week for 20-30mins.

I would recommend this with a dip in the plunge pool when you get out the sauna.

When using the sauna post workout I would keep it as far away from the session as possible personally. Rest days anytime of day seems to work.

    Friday’s training

Sorry for the delayed post – I had a long day training and driving yesterday so I’m catching up on my log now.

Had a solid enough events session on the competition kit yesterday up in Boroughbridge.

Sandbag Toss – worked up in singles up to the top weight then did a few full comp runs with bags ranging from 18-28kg. Strangely enough my first couple of sets were my best. I think I got a bit tired and/or amped up on later sets which is not what you want for throwing. You need to stay relaxed as it’s very technical. Lesson learnt and I’ve made a plan to add in some more throws over the next couple of weeks.

Shield walk – worked up to the full 200kg shield for 40m which was easy and filled me with confidence for Brits as this has historically been a bogey event for me.

Stones – up to one motions with the 150 and 170kg stones. All pretty routine really, still progressing these as I haven’t done stones in a while.

We filmed the session for the site so watch out for a very different type of training session coming soon.

Had a busy rest day today.

Went and saw the Doc to have a pint of blood off then hit the road as I’m up north testing the kit for Britain’s Strongest Man tomorrow.

Booked into a hotel tonight to get used to sleeping with the CPAP in a hotel room before I have to do it at Brits in a couple of weeks time.

    Wednesday Press Session.

Trained a bit later today and still took my hit of JPre Stim – still wide awake so hopefully I can get to sleep soon! Great session today, training solo so it took ages moving all the kit about and loading the plates – got a proper sweat on.

Log Press – up to 173×1
Axle clean and press – up to 150×1 then 120×4
Seated Lockouts – Up to 120kg plus 70kg band tension
    Pressdowns – 4×12
    Leg Press 4×12

Had a great recovery day today, got all the bases covered:

    Slept enough
    Walked in the morning
    Had a productive massage session
Spent some time in the sauna
    Got all my food in

I always enjoy the days where I get everything ticked off and I know I couldn’t do anymore to prepare me for my next session.

    Heavy pressing tomorrow.

Yep sounds like you’d got the right idea training wise. Legs not an issue and contra lateral training on the non injured side is essential.

Cuff attachment for cable will be a good idea for a variety of fly and row options for your injured side. I would imagine you’ll need to be on this for 6-8 weeks before you can slowly start to use machines again.

You’ll need to go on feel but be sensible to start with to allow the bone to heal.

Have they immobilised the wrist with a cast or splint at all?

Maybe try using some Bio oil on your existing stretch marks.

I know plenty of guys who used it on scars post surgery with amazing effects and it’s reported to also work on stretch marks.

I’m not sure if it will prevent new ones but it will reduce the visible appearance of current scars/stretch marks

Another good session with some good progress on all my lifts. All pain free.

    13” axle Deadlift 330×8
    Leg press 4×12
    Back squat 4×12
    Back extension 4×12
    Sandbag Walk 100kg 3x60m

The sandbag walks were brutal after the rest of the sessions work. Back and glutes were on fire. Glad I pushed through with all the sets though. More of a mental thing than anything.

I use the whoop band and find it beneficial in tracking movement and sleep. The data seems to match up with how I feel which adds to its reliability IMO.

A word of caution though – it’s very easy to get sucked into a trackable dictating how you feel. Always wake up and think for yourself how you slept/how recovered you feel before you look at the device as that is ultimately more important.

I don’t think they are essential but for those like me that love to track training trends and numbers I find them useful.

Felt proper run down yesterday so I had to move my training to today. Ended up sleeping 10.5 hours and I’m feeling much better.

Getting a couple of meals in then I’ll be doing my assistance session.

    Hi John

I’m assuming you’re taking your diclofenac in pill form at the moment? If so a word of caution running if for a prolonged period as it is renowned as a stomach lining killer.

I’ve used the injectable version in the past to help settle down inflammation in my back from a jammed facet joint and this was way better. It worked well to settle the injury down in a couple of days. Nothing works better for joint pain IME. It comes in a 75mg vial.

You can also get diclofenac as a suppository if you live by the phrase “finger up the bum, no harm done” haha.

If it were me I would take your approach of settle it down quickly then get off the anti inflammatory drugs as soon as possible

Great events session today. Zero TFL pain and everything was flying. Reintroduced atlas stone one motions without a problem and loaded the throwing bags a bit heavier.

Things are building nicely with 4 weeks to go…

Sand bag toss over bar – worked up to 3 runs of 20/20/25/27kg bags over the 4.5m wall.
    Shield walk – 167x15m 177x15m 187x15m 167x30m
Atlas stones one motions – 120/130/150 to the high platform

Recovery work today. Got my TfL moving this morning, spend some time in the sauna and got some movement done in the pool.

Feeling good for tomorrow’s event training where I’ll reintroduce atlas stones
