Final rest day before we kick off the WSM prep tomorrow. It feels like ages since I’ve lifted but I know it’s what my body needs right now.

AC joint is feeling ok on certain movements but my left trap is still jacked to hell. The compex did not work on it but the massage gun has elevated the pain a bit.

As I didn’t train today I did some stuff around the house I’ve been putting off. Switched over my truck plates finally and cleared out the storeroom which was full of stuff we don’t need. Plan is to turn that room into my workshop now that it’s clean and clutter free.

Trip to the tip tomorrow as the flatbed of my truck is packed then it’s deadlift day.

Starting to see a bit of improvement with my AC. The joint is feeling improved but the surrounding muscles are still jacked up.

Confident I’ll be able to pull on Monday.

Still resting – I’ll be back lifting on Monday.

Shoulder has been sore today but it feels more like the surrounding muscles that are jacked up and sore. Got into them a bit and it seemed to help.

Keen to get back training as i have 11 training weeks till WSM

More of a structured day today.

Got up and walked the dogs then jumped in the sauna for a bit.

I’m in need of some soft tissue work on my trap as the whole of my left side is jacked to fuck. Booked in for Tuesday so I’ll try and get a LAX ball in it tomorrow.

Spent the rest of the day trying to work out why a newly purchased pressure washer was not working. Checked everything and even dismantled it but it’s still not functioning. That’s as exciting as my day got today hahaha!

Not much to report today. Still forcing myself to take the rest of this week off to allow my body to heal and not stretch/strain my ACJ while it scars up.

Spent my day as an admin day so wrote up my full training plan for WSM and the deadlift champs on the gym white board as I like to see a clear pathway.

Then took a nap far too late in the day hence why I’m up way too late.

I’m a creature of habit and my day is structured around my training sessions so without it I’m all over the place.

Back to a bit more normality tomorrow hopefully.

    Shoulder injury update.

I saw the physios today and had my shoulder ultrasounded. Biggest problem was getting through my Delt bulk to see my AC joint which I am of course very proud about haha.

Turns out I have a grade 1 tear of my AC which can be managed conservatively and shouldn’t take long to rehab. I can always get a jab in there as well to speed the process along.

I’ll take the week off training and start again on Monday with my planned deadlift session. For my pressing I’ll have to gradually reload my movements and work within pain markers.

Very happy that it won’t effect my WSM prep too much.

One massive plus I’m taking from this comp is my raw strength on the axle deadlift. Taking the win on that one with no suit was a big plus for me. My best ever on that axle was 7 in a suit so pulling 6 raw puts me in a good place for the next blast with my raw deadlift leading up to WSM

Mate your a machine, obv being able to keep going physically is impressive – but being able to keep your calm mentally and still do what you needed to do, to pick up 3rd is impressive as hell. Thank you for keeping us all updated

Thanks mate. It definitely tested me mentally as after the injury there was the realisation that I couldn’t win but we had to get on with it so we rolled out the big guns – downed a second serving of JPre Stim and got the final two events done haha

Morning guys sorry I didn’t post any comp update yesterday. Mentally and physically I was a bit broken.

BSM didn’t 100% go to plan for me. Unfortunately I picked up a couple of injuries on the second a third event which made things tough for me. Luckily I managed to get through the rest of the comp to finish 3rd.

Event 1 shield walk – I managed 40m on this which was a big improvement for me but only good for 6th place.

Event 2 deadlift – 360kg on a very tough axle set up. I was the only guy pulling without a suit as it is part of my long term plan this year. I managed to pull 6 reps for joint 1st place but also picked up a minor tear in my left calf.

Event 3 axle clean and press – 4 reps on this for me which was good for 2nd. Felt something go pop in my shoulder on the 3rd rep but managed to get a 4th rep afterwards. I suspect I’ve either damaged my ACJ, CCJ or broken my clavicle

Event 4 bag toss – obviously lost a bit of motivation after the injury as I knew I couldn’t get the win. Got 5 bags which got me 5th I believe.

Event 5 Atlas stones – slow and stead run getting all 5 which is what I needed to secure 3rd place.

3rd overall after the injuries I got is pretty decent I suppose. It was always going to be tough to get the title off Tom and he looked untouchable with those events on Saturday.

I’ve got an appointment with the physio tomorrow to assess my shoulder and then I’ll make a plan from there. WSM is 12 weeks away which is my main focus this year so there’s no time to waste. I’ll update you guys when I know the extent of my injury

Been following along from the start, great log. Good luck at the brits Adam

    Thanks Martin

Travelled up to the athlete hotel in Sheffield today and got my interviews done.

Had an athlete meeting going over the rules etc then got some soft tissue work done. One more meal to go in tonight before I get some sleep.

I’ll post an update before the comp tomorrow on what I get up to in the morning.

Final training session before Brits today.

Nothing special really just some clean and press for 3 sets of 2 reps with the fixed axle at it’s empty weight of 120kg. Everything feeling very fast as it should.

Body is feeling fresh and ready to go this weekend

Yep I’ve drank a lot of calories in the past especially when I was working.

I’ve now cut that back to once a day consisting of 200g of COR and 60g of whey post workout and this digests really well for me.

I used to blend egg whites, oats, whey etc in the past but I’ve stopped that now after JP recommended it and I must say I’ve noticed a big difference in terms of my appetite going into my next meal.

Take home point – try not to blend your whole foods too much but it’s not a problem with COR etc in my opinion.

Body is feeling great today as we move into my final training week. Well into the taper now so minimal volume today as you’ll see. Just looking for that neural stimulus and co-ordination.

    Speed Pulls 260x3x2

And that’s it haha. Everything was moving fast especially as I was pulling on an axle bar which is usually hard to generate speed on.

Body is feeling pretty good today after the session yesterday which is amazing considering the work I got in.

Had a trip down to make an appearance at a deadlift seminar today which was great. I could talk the paint off the walls regarding deadlift training and programming haha.

Another rest day tomorrow as I continue to drop out the volume work so I’ll be fresh for some speed pulls on Monday

Massive session for me today. Final heavy events session and it felt amazing, right up there with my peak strength. Fills me with confidence for Brits next week.

Shield Walk – 167kg for 60m (with more in the tank) Huge improvement on last week.
    Speed Pulls – 220kg 6×2
Bag over Bar – 20/20/25/27 all flying over this week even in Gale force winds haha
Stones – 210kg to the high platform then a run of 120-180 all super fast and to higher platforms than usual.

Look out for video clips over on my IG in the coming days – feeling like my peak is well on track for the show.
