More progress today on the pressing front. ACJ still sore on overhead movements but horizontal and incline pressing feels much improved. Managed to push the weights up on everything so moving in the right direction

    Log strict press 92x3x4
    Incline Bench 120x3x4
    Seated DB Press (BFR) 4×15
    Bent over Pressdowns (BFR) 4×15

Finished up with some grip work using the nipple.

    Tuesday’s session

Apologies for not posting this yesterday – my fat thumbs apparently failed to hit the post button!

Really happy with every aspect of my work yesterday – saw some good improvements from a busy day.

Got soft tissue work done in the morning which is helping with the muscles around my AC, always feel better after the massage but things are still tightening up 24h later.

Another wattbike session with a slight manipulation on the rest period which made the world of difference:
    5×1’ efforts @460-500W with R4’

Then off to the sauna and I’m getting better accustomed to the heat – had a bit of a stand off with some guy in there as there was no way I was leaving the heat before he did.

Back home for a dog walk in the sunshine then some cooking to finish the day.
Chalk me up for another day where I got better

260mm measuring the piston rod if that makes sense?

I like it relatively upright as I have mobile ankles and I’m pretty lazy so don’t want to have to put on so many plates haha.

Speed work for deadlifts today. I’ve found that when I start ramping the weight up while training for a 1RM I can only do a heavy session once every two weeks so I incorporate speed pulls on the other weeks.
Still pulling on the stiff bar which is a proper bastard for speed work and really works the initial pull hard.

    Speed Deadlift 270x8x2
    Leg Press 4×12
    GHR 4×8
    Back Extension 4×12
    SSB Squat 1×20

I use a tape measure to measure the piston length so it’s the same everytime.

It’s one of my pet peeves seeing guys have that thing practically flat on the floor and loading it up for no reason.

No training today and I tried to do as little as possible.

Couple of jobs about the house and I went off to scout a location for training power stairs on which went well. Hopefully should be there Friday morning for a couple of sets.

First training week back and every day has been spot on. Nothing missed. Focus on building perfect days into perfect weeks into perfect months for this prep for WSM.

Volume session for me today and back using the method I was using prior to Brits. Working at 55% 1rm on all movements for 4×12.

    CG Pulldowns
    SA Cable Row
    High incline DB CSR
    Hammer strength chest press
    DB lateral raise
    DB Alt Curl
    Long Rope Pressdowns

All movements felt ok from an ACJ point of view which is good progress for me.

    Finally a rest day tomorrow.

Bit of a modified events session today. Having to guess events for WSM at this stage and avoid movements that cause pain to my ACJ.

    Yoke Runs – 320kg for 3x15m
Simulated Power stairs – managed to bodge up a pretty sketchy set up with two steps for power stairs. Did a couple of doubles with it.
Stones – 130kg one motions set further back from the wall like they will be for WSM

I have the luxury of a home gym so I wonder about in socks most of the time.

When I did train in public gyms I liked wearing otomix shoes for my leg sessions (when not requiring an elevated heel). Had a couple of pairs and they took a beating and survived.

They are really soft and have a grippy sole – pretty much the gym version of slippers IMO haha.

Similar training day to Tuesday – bike, grip and a trip to the sauna.

Got the following work done on the wattbike:
    5x1min @460W with 3min rest
This resulted in an extreme quad pump.

Grip session was exactly the same as Tuesday – rolling thunder holds for time, nipple pick ups and DB wrist curls for reps.

Bit of a modified events session tomorrow as I’m avoiding anything that’s going to stress my AC. Also we have no idea what the events for WSM are yet so we have to guess what’s going to come up.

Easing back into pressing today with some very uninspiring weights.

AC was a little sore on the overhead presses but the incline felt ok actually. Plan is to rebuild the loads on these movements in the coming weeks and to utilise some BFR for seated DB press and Pressdowns.

    Log press 73x3x5
    Incline Bench Press 100x3x5
    Seated DB Press (BFR) 4×15
    Bent over Pressdowns (BFR) 4×15

It’s not much but it’s honest work haha

New look Tuesday for me. I needed to get some baseline data on the wattbike today for some alactic capacity work I’m including after a recommendation from a friend and former colleague at Quins. This will be of great benefit for the types of events that crop up at WSM (truck pull being one of them).

For today it was a simple warm up and a 1min max effort which was horrible. Crippling quad pump afterwards but we got it done and have some numbers to work off of over the next 6-10 weeks.

Also got some massage work which did wonders for my locked up trap and sub-scap.

Finally did my grip work. A long hold on a pair of rolling thunder handles (1min7sec) then some work with my bespoke grip tool I designed. Finished with some DB wrist curls.

Another great day for me. A very light press session awaits tomorrow

Finally back lifting and it felt good.

Today I commenced both my prep for WSM and my prep for the 505 deadlift. The first 11 weeks as I build towards WSM my deadlift will be with no suit and using a stiff bar before I switch to the suit and deadlift bar after WSM.

AC made it through the session, some discomfort on my top deadlift set but most of the pain is still muscular post session. Looking forward to some soft tissue work tomorrow to release the muscles.

    Here’s how things went:

    Deadlift 315×8
    Paused leg press 4×10
    GHR 3×8
    Back Extension 3×10
    SSB 1×20

Glad to hear your healing up bish. What is the next comp you have planned mate? The big question the whole world wants to know is when will we see you pull the 505kg ?

    Thanks buddy.

Next show is WSM in Sacremento starting May 25th. I turned down my invite to Europe’s strongest man as I want to focus on WSM and the deadlift champs.

That’s where I’ll be pulling the 505 – The giants live world deadlift championship in Cardiff on the 6th August.
