    Tuesday session.

    Keg toss – 17kg 20 throws total
    Yoke run – 440x20m sub 10 sec
    Stone walk – 1 run of 20m

Solo session yesterday and I got everything done that I needed to. Giving the bicep a little rest to allow it to fully settle down so I went with bicep safe movements. This means I’ll be doing stones and sandbags on Sunday this week.

Yoke run was feeling smooth. When I’ve watched the videos back it hasn’t looked fast but then timing the reps every run has been under 10sec which is great going.

Stone walks still destroying my thumbs but they will toughen up eventually. Adapt or die and all that.

Good session in the barn today. Went double overhand on the axle cleans to look after the bicep and it worked well. New stance on the Viking felt much more comfortable.

    Axle clean and press 153×1
    Viking press 180×10
    Dips 5×7

Axle presses at 153 felt very easy as they should. Lockout felt good on all the reps including the Viking press. Looking forward to the final phase ramp up in weight over the next two weeks

Rest day spent with friends and family.

Got my walking down still but I kept the diet relaxed and enjoyed myself.

Into another training week and the final wave towards WSM. Everything is getting nailed.

Morning session at the farm before I hit the road to visit friends and family for the Easter weekend.

Spent some time warming up my bicep for training today which was successful. Tightened up a bit after the sandbag but otherwise I made it through ok. Keg toss is a new addition as it’s been switched in as an event for WSM as of this week. A keg toss for max height is trained a bit different to a keg toss run for time so I’ll need a couple of sessions to get used to the differing trajectories.

Keg toss for height – 17kg for 20 throws total
Sandbag loading – 100 and 125 bags for a full run
    Stone walk – 124/140kg for a single 20m run

Rich brings up a very good point here regarding the different deload requirements of strength vs size training goals.

Most of the time for strength related goals you are working towards peaking for a certain day when you have to be at your best, therefore a structured path to getting there is required.

With bodybuilding most will go for a train until I feel I need a deload approach which is the correct way to go IMO. It does however require an understanding of your body and what it’s capable of. This comes with time and experience. Simply going I’m tired today so I need to deload is not the answer here. Looking at multiple factors which indicate over reaching such as training performance, appetite, sleep quality and in some cases resting heart rate can be beneficial to make things a little more objective for people until they really nail their self awareness.

Yep I’ve recently moved over to MPS Max as my intra protein source and I prefer it.

Ultimately is comes down to a good, better, best situation and what you can afford.

Great session today with some deloaded deadlifts and some light Viking work.

I wanted to revisit the Viking to assess my slight change in foot placement. Nothing too heavy, just some higher rep work to see how it feels. Felt much better and looked smoother with my feet further forward so I’m happy.

Deadlifts were done ladder style working on getting strapped to the bar quickly and ripping through the reps. Strap speed seems to be on a pair to the last time I trained it which is good.

    Deadlift – 240×5
    Viking Press – 150×13
    Dips – 5×6

    Rest day today.

Weighed in at 157.2kg which is pretty heavy for me but fortunately I’m feeling and moving ok with it.

Got all my walking done today even in some pretty powerful winds we’ve got going on right now.

Bit of a mixed session lined up for tomorrow with some deload deadlifts followed by some more Viking as I really want to get my foot position nailed on this.

Farm events session today which started with loading up a new husafell sandbag which is super difficult on your own haha. Managed to rig up some sort of system to hold the bag open while I loaded it with 140kg of sand. Once that was done it was onto the main purpose of the session which was some fast yoke runs up to 400kg.

After that I planned on sandbag loading but my bicep didn’t like it today so I didn’t risk anything and I’ve left that till Sunday.

Woke up feeling pretty run down this morning. Got my physio and massage done plus the usual daily walks but i decided to push training back a day to Wednesday.

There would have been zero point going into a heavy events session not feeling good, especially at this stage in WSM prep.

Had my flight itinerary for WSM through today so that’s one less thing to worry about.

If your sessions are not effected by residual doms and your lifts are progressing I don’t see an issue with training with some soreness.

BUT – if it effects how you are lifting and the soreness remains then I would add some rest days and look at what you are doing to promote recovery.

Press session today with some lighter axle work while I focus on the Viking press. Played around with my foot placement today as o try and get the weight over the mid point of my foot as much as possible. With a weight on a fixed pivot point like the Viking press it’s super important to have your feet in the right place as it can drastically change the lift. I did numerous build up sets working to 200kg then some back offs as I took the plates off again.

    Axle press – 122x5x1
    Viking press – 200×8
    Dips – 5×5

Standard Sunday rest day for me today. Two 45min walks done and cooked up some meals for the week.

Trip to B&Q tomorrow to pick up some sand to load up a husafell sandbag ready for training Tuesday.

    Press day tomorrow
